Frequently Asked Questions

Helping you understand your legal issue

Smyth & Cioffi, LLP is dedicated to assisting clients with securing personal injury or insurance claims.  For reference purposes only, we answer a few frequently asked questions below.  Please recognize that the answers to these questions do not constitute legal advice.  Only an attorney can provide advice tailored to your unique situation.

What should I do after I've been injured?
The most important first step is to seek proper medical treatment, from a reputable doctor who is skilled with your particular type of injury.  Specialists can be expensive, but are well worth the cost when you consider that your health over a lifetime will be affected by the quality of medical care you get at the very beginning.  Next, consult with a lawyer who can help you recover damages for the physical, emotional and financial tolls of an unexpected injury.

How long should it take for an insurance company to pay my claim?
There is no exact answer to this question because every personal injury or insurance claim is different.  The scope of your coverage and the level of suspicion by the insurance agent can affect how long it takes for your claim to be approved.  In the meantime, you can contact your insurance agent to check on the status of the claim.  If your claim has been delayed more than a few weeks, it may be time to consult with a lawyer.
